“I have to hasten to emphasise that in appreciating and adopting the knowledge capital and capital investments from companies coming from more developed countries, it is important to illustrate a clear mandate to empower the citizens of Botswana in order to ensure seamless continuity and sustenance of the growth of this nature,” he said.
He said with the proliferation of ICT technologies in the early 2000s, the government saw the need to build capacity training through various initiatives aimed at training Batswana to invest in the infrastructure that would support IT knowledge transformation and exponential growth of innovation.
“I believe many of you are aware of government initiatives and other initiatives that are geared at ensuring that we keep up with the times, such as the Connecting Communities Programme, Kitsong Centres, Thuto Net, Government Online, the Botswana Innovation Hub, the Botswana Telecommunications Corporation and the formation of the Botswana Fibre Network (BOFINET) company,” he said.
He underscored that e-Government was the overarching strategic driver for most of the initiatives, adding that the ICT transformation received support from the highest level in government and the highest office in the land.“I understand the deep industry expertise across various industry areas that AdaptIT has a great IT track record in deploying corporate social responsibilities (CSR) that there will be knowledge transfer and capacity building by the company, particularly for graduates in the ICT fraternity who need all the guidance they get in the rigour of solution-focused application development,” he said.
