The participants will not only contribute to community development initiatives but they will also improve their employment readiness through on the job training and experience. Generally, participants will be enrolled where they have accommodation but it is possible for participants to stay with host families, particularly in the rural areas. Emphasis will be on placement in the rural districts where there is need for service. This is intended to improve service delivery in rural areas by engaging young people in extension work.
Participants will be placed in Government and Public Institutions, including the Disciplined Forces. This is intended to improve the reach of the disciplined forces to communities. Each participant will receive a meal allowance of P600.00, and will be given priority for placement in the National Internship Programme if they are in the Internship waiting list. In addition each participant will receive a certificate of completion when they leave the programme.
The Scheme is open to:
• Unemployed young people with graduate qualifications (degree holders).
• Graduate youth who are not enrolled in other schemes such as National Internship and Tirelo Sechaba
• Those who have gone through 2 years of internship but are willing to continue as volunteers under the GVS.
