Swedish ICT & Cleantech Companies invited to invest in Botswana

The Embassy in partnership with the Botswana Innovation Hub and Krinova Science Park hosts an ICT & Cleantech Seminar to prospective Swedish companies.

On 26 March 2014, the Embassy in collaboration with the Botswana Innovation Hub (BIH) and the Krinova Science Park presented the vast business opportunities existing within the ICT and Cleantech sectors in Botswana, to Swedish companies and Universities in the town of Kristianstad, south of Stockholm. The purpose of the seminar was to invite Swedish companies to establish within the Botswana Innovation Hub's Science and Technology Park in Gaborone. Over 30 participants with expertise and technologies in mining solutions, Solar energy, cleanwater solutions & technologies, environment management solutions and food processing technologies amongst others, graced the event and were able to interact with the Embassy and BIH team.

About the BIH

The Botswana Innovation Hub is a company incorporated to develop and operate Botswana's first Science and Technology Park. The Company is mandated to support new and existing ventures, as well as attract companies, universities, research and advanced training institutes to establish in the Science and Technology Park. This initiative is set to transform Botswana into a technology driven and knowledge based economy by promnoting a culture of innovation and competitiveness among its associated companies and knowledge based institutions.

The BIH therefore invites local and international businesses and training institutes in the following sectors; Information and Communications Technology & ICT enabled services; Energy and Environment (Clean Technology); Mining Technologies & Beneficiation; and Biotechnology. Qualifying Companies will be granted a BIH Membership Certificate which entitles them to networking, research and technical collaboration opportunities locally and internationally; a concessionary 15% corporate tax rate; eligibility to import specialised skills and personnel under a special BIH dispensation; Access to the Technology Entrepreneurship Programme run by BIH; Access to Innovation Fund run by BIH; Access to a range of technology transfer and commercialisation services.
